• What kinds of PCs do you work on?

  Windows laptops, desktops, all-in-ones, gaming PCs and custom builds, from the major manufacturers and from whoever assembled the machine in someone's basement a decade ago. Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, Microsoft Surface and unbranded builds all come through regularly.

  Custom and self-built machines are genuinely welcome rather than merely tolerated. They are often easier to work on than a thin retail laptop, because the parts are standard and accessible. If you built it yourself and something has gone wrong, you will not get a lecture about it.

• My PC is slow. Does it need replacing?

  Usually not, and this is the single most common thing we are asked. A Windows machine that has become painfully slow is far more often suffering from a mechanical hard drive, a malware infection, a startup list that has grown for years, thermal throttling from dust, or simply not enough memory for how it is now used. All of those are fixable for a fraction of a replacement.

  The honest counterweight: sometimes a machine really has aged out, and the money is better spent elsewhere. The diagnostic is what tells the two apart, and it is free with any work that follows. • Can you get Windows 11 onto my Windows 10 machine?

  Often, and the first job is checking whether your machine is genuinely eligible rather than finding out halfway through. Windows 11 has real hardware requirements, and plenty of otherwise healthy machines do not meet them. We check that first and tell you the answer before anything is started.

  Where a machine is eligible, we take a full backup, then do either an in-place upgrade or a clean install depending on the condition it is in. Where a machine is not eligible, we will tell you that plainly and talk through what the actual options are. Detail is on the Windows upgrade page.

• I am locked out of Windows. Can you help?

  It depends on how the account is secured. A forgotten password on a local Windows account is frequently recoverable. A Microsoft account can often be recovered through Microsoft rather than through us, which is usually the faster route and we will point you at it. BitLocker, with nobody holding the recovery key, is the case where the answer is genuinely no.

  Encryption without the key is not a lock we can pick, and we would rather say that on the phone than after you have driven over. The full explanation is on the PC password recovery page.

• My PC will not boot. Are my files recoverable?

  Frequently, yes. A PC that will not start is often a Windows problem rather than a hardware one, and even where the drive itself has failed, PC storage is usually removable, which makes evaluation and recovery more straightforward than on many modern laptops from other ecosystems.

• Do I need an appointment?

  Yes, please call ahead at 716-771-2536. We are drop-off by appointment rather than walk-in, and that is deliberate: it is what lets every machine get real attention instead of being queued behind a counter.

  Same-day appointments are often available, and when we are busier it is usually one or two days out. Telling us briefly what the machine is doing when you call means we can often have the right part on hand for the appointment, which shortens the whole thing.
